Benefits of Swimava Baby Swimming
On average, how many hours does your baby sleep each night? Record your baby’s sleep patterns and durations before and after Swimava and compare the difference after one week of regular Swimava bath time each night. Set aside 15-30 minutes of Swimava bath time within 1 hour of bedtime and notice your baby’s improved sleep quality and duration. We guarantee you will see encouraging results.
Other Swimava benefits include:
1. Swimava offers security and free mobility for your baby swimming from as young as one month old. The key to early water safety and the transition to actual swimming is first learning to tread water. Our Swimava Swim Ring gently supports your baby’s head above water allowing him to learn ‘treading’ movements early, and with the intent of avoiding drowning accidents later on.
2. Swimava is made of high quality hypo-allergenic PVC plastic and free from Bisphenol-A. Your baby’s safety is a priority and dual air chambers plus an adjustable fastening system make it easy adjust the Baby Swim Ring to suit your baby.
3. Our patented paediatrician’s design is made especially for early baby learning, swim safety & bath safety with proven benefits. See the results of our studies at Swimava.com.
4. Dual compartmental air chambers provide extra baby swim and bath safety.
5. Flexibility of use at home in our Swimava Happy Baby-B Bath & Pool, in the bathtub, or public / private swimming pool. *Always ensure the water temperature is suitable for your baby by using a floating baby bath thermometer.
6. Swimava provides complete mobility and free movement in a way that no other baby pre-swimming apparatus can. Enjoy complete security for your baby while active in a familiar water environment. Take a few minutes to watch Swimava ‘Video Clips’ on Swimava.com.
7. Have two babies and not enough hands for your infants at bath time? Use a Swimava Baby Ring to keep one baby safe and secure while you bath the other. Then switch!
8. This product weighs less than 4.5kg with pool, ring, pumps included, and packs perfectly as a travel baby bath and pool.
9. Swimava is a perfect alternative to chlorinated public pools that are harsh on your baby’s skin.
Benefits of Teaching Your Baby to Swim Early:
1. Baby swimming is one of the best early activities you can offer your baby. It stimulates physical and mental development from an early age, improving core muscle development and co-ordination.
2. Baby swimming encourages physical activity that cannot be compared to at 1-12 months of age. This is a time when your baby can’t even roll over by himself, let alone support herself upright. In the water a baby is nearly weightless and free to move about as he or she wishes. What a great opportunity to explore and develop from an early age!
3. Want your baby to be active? Swimava Baby time will help improve your baby’s strength, balance, stamina, breathing and coordination. Take a photo or video once a week and as the months pass, you’ll be impressed with the difference in your baby’s activity levels. Post these on our Facebook Page and you’ll automatically be entered in our monthly draws. If you don’t use Facebook, email them to us and we’ll post them on our website with your permission.
4. Swimava is quality time with your baby that helps instil confidence, trust and development of communication skills. Baby swimming encourages important child-parental bonding from an early age.
5. Baby swimming is quality playtime and is socially stimulating for both you and your baby!
6. One of the most important benefits you’ll see is the encouragement of regular eating and sleeping patterns. Make Swimava an evening routine before bedtime!
Swimava Guide & Instructions (must be read before use):
It’s important that babies acquire different kinds of movements and physical abilities during their first year of life in order to promote the development of higher functions. Swimava is a safe and reliable way to have your baby pre-swimming and active at home from an early age. You’ll appreciate Swimava most when your baby sleeps so well at night!
1. Separate hand inflation pumps are included for each Baby-B Pool and Swim Ring. Check the valves for each air compartment using the small hand pump provided. Insert the pump nozzle into each air valve firmly in order to break the factory seal for each valve. Be careful not to damage the air valve while doing this.
2. Inflate all air compartments separately ensuring each valve is securely plugged following inflation (a larger hand pump is provided with Swimava Pools).
3. Fill the Swimava Pool or your bath tub with warm water and to a desired level. For Safety – As your baby grows, you should continually raise the water level so that he can only just reach the bottom with his feet. Ensuring of sufficient water levels as described will allow our baby to enjoy the most benefit possible from Swimava. * Remember: Maximum infant weight should not exceed 11kg or 25lbs.
4 Ensure the water temperature is suitable for your baby at their given age. Buy a baby bath floating thermometer to monitor the water temperature every 5 minutes.
5. For babies 1 – 6 months old, it is best to have one parent support the baby’s head while the other parent fastens the Swimava Ring. Open the swim ring and gently bring it around your baby’s neck, starting from the front (under your baby’s chin). Close the ring using both fasteners.
6. Always adjust the neck ring diameter to suit your baby prior to placing him in the pool or bath, (never when already in the bath). This can be done by adjusting the top buckle and the bottom Velcro fastener. If your ring does not have these features, you may also slightly decrease the lower/inner air chamber to relax the inner ring diameter – you should always be able to slide at least 2 fingers in between the ring and your baby. The ring should easily move around your baby’s neck and should only be supporting his / her head above the water.
7. NB. For babies 6 months or older, or once he is able to sit on his own, one parent will be able to gently place and fasten the swim ring. Unless your swim ring has a specified chin rest area (labelled) it is possible for your baby’s chin to rest anywhere along the inner part of the ring. For rings without a specially designed chin rest, the buckle section is the next best place for your baby’s chin to rest as there is a slight gap that allows was excess water drainage.
8. Support your baby from under his arms while gently placing him in the bath or pool. Do not allow your baby to roll onto his/her belly in shallow water. Ensure adequate water level is maintained as described above and this will naturally be avoided.
9. It is critical that the water temperature is suita
ble for your baby. With a suitable water temperature, your baby will most likely feel perfectly comfortable in his new water environment and enjoy their first Swimava experience immensely. Make the first swim no more than 5 minutes and then make incremental increases based on your baby’s response to this new environment. (NB. If water is ‘hard’ in your area, consider using a water softener that is suitable for babies).
10. As your baby becomes more comfortable with Swimava, swim times may extend from 15 to 30 minutes depending on your baby’s preference. If your baby is suffering from dry skin or any skin disorder, limit bath time to no more than 5 minutes (10 minutes absolute maximum). We’ve generally found Swimava bath time helps improve nappy (diaper) rash and promotes healthier skin.
11. Never leave your baby unattended while using this product. Pay close attention to your baby for signs she is ready to finish bath / swim time. They most certainly will let you know when they’ve had enough!
12. Two parents should always be present when taking your baby out of the pool. While Parent 1 holds a towel open, Parent 2 should remove the baby from the pool and pass to him to Parent 1. Parent 1 should firmly wrap your baby in the towel prior to Parent 2 removing the Swimava Swim Ring.
13. Consider purchasing a large pail / wash basin for bailing water from the pool if using indoors (the drain is more suitable for outdoor use). Always ensure the drain is securely fastened prior to filling the pool, especially indoors.
14. Consider alternating Swimava bath time with public / private pool time to avoid over exposing your baby’s skin to harsh chlorinated pool water and other chemicals. Some babies may have an allergic to chlorinated water and Swimava at home is a perfect alternative.
15. Store the Baby-B Pool and Swimava Swim Ring in a cool dry place and not in direct sunlight. Suggestion: An electric inflation pump can be purchased at Target or other leading retailers and this is useful for easy pool inflation.
NB. Although it may be possible for your baby to swim independently up to 30 minutes, this should not be exceeded. Never leave your baby unattended while using this or any flotation product and always keep your baby within arm’s reach.
Best Practices
1. Ensure both air compartments are suitably inflated and that each plug is well fastened. Plugs have safety valves preventing air from easily escaping (press the pump in firmly to this break seal).
2. Seat the swim ring firmly around your baby’s neck and then gently lift his/her chin before fastening the ring. Unless there is a specified chin rest area, the ring fasteners should be directly below your baby’s chin from age 1-6 months).
3. Purchase a baby thermometer. The water temperature should be approximately 35 degrees Celsius / 90 degrees Fahrenheit with no more than +/- 2 degrees variation being maintained.
4. If using the Baby-B indoor pool this is also an ideal time to bath your baby. You’ll have both hands free to wash your baby while he/she has complete mobility. This is even more useful if you have two infants!
5. In the interest of baby skincare it is important to use recommended bubble-free bathing products that are: mild enough for babies, soap-free, ph neutral tried & tested by dermatologists. This is especially important if your baby has any skin conditions.
6. Every baby responds in a different way to new environments, so pay close attention for signs from your baby as to whether he is in any way uncomfortable or whether the water temperature is not suitable. In general the water temperature should not drop below 30 degrees Celsius.
7. Your baby may cry the first time he or she is in the water. Consider shortening the duration of their first swim and pay close attention to any signs your baby gives you.
8. Make Swimava daily bathing times as regular as possible (e.g. before nap time or bedtime each day). You’ll notice sleep quality and duration significantly improves along with yours!
9. Please note this product should be used as a pre-swimming lead up and transition to traditional baby swimming lessons and should not replace swim lessons. Swimava provides an excellent opportunity to encourage more active water time at home, when other constraints limit time you can spend at a public / private pool.
10. The ‘treading water’ movement is the key to early swim safety for your infant and this is the primary benefit of Swimava.
11. You may notice an improvement in any diaper / nappy rash your baby has, prior to using Swimava. Regular time spent baby swimming with minimal usage of baby bath products in the water may be helping this. For some babies, water itself can be drying and you’ll need to judge a suitable amount of time in the water for your baby and which bathing products suit your baby best.
Precautions:
1. Never leave your child unattended when using the Swimava Baby Ring and pool.
2. Always consult your paediatrician regarding early water activity for your baby and to ensure suitability of this product for your baby.
3. Always ensure the drain is securely fastened prior to filling the pool, especially indoors!
4. Avoid use of any bath oils in the water as these can affect the plastic Swimava pool and ring. This could also make surfaces unexpectedly slippery and lead to an accident when removing your baby from the bath.
5. Avoid use of the pool and swim ring near any sharp or pointed object to reduce risk of puncture. Also, regularly inspect the Swimava Swim Ring for any damage / punctures that could lead to deflation while in use. We offer a 30 day Quality Guarantee for this product. Visit Swimava.com for more info.
6. Keep the Baby-B pool and swim ring away from any sources of heat and extended sunlight in order to avoid damage.
7. Use only mild soap and warm water to clean this product. Do not pressure-wash this product and avoid use of any cleaning detergents, especially abrasives and bleach.
